Smoothie King hit a new tier this month after the franchise opened its latest location in its home state.
The company welcomed its 1,200th store on Nov. 14 with a grand opening ceremony in Roanoke, Texas. This location is situated near Smoothie King’s corporate headquarters in the greater Dallas-Fort Worth metro market.
Smoothie King has been active, especially in Illinois, and recently opened locations in Chicago and Dekalb. A location in Crest Hill is slated to open today with upcoming new sites including Huntley, Lansing, Oak Lawn, and Homer Glen in addition to commitments secured for three other openings in the state.
“Reaching the 1,200th store milestone at this beautiful new location in Roanoke is especially meaningful given our brand’s presence in DFW—including our corporate headquarters and over 80 Smoothie King locations across the metroplex,” said Chris Bremer, chief development officer at Smoothie King. “Additionally, our rapid expansion in the Chicago area brings our nutritious, delicious smoothies to even more neighborhoods to support healthier lifestyles for our guests across the city.”
Smoothie King’s growth in Illinois and Texas is part of the company’s strategic expansion plan to meet increasing consumer demand for nutritious meal options across the country.
The company said its “Clean Blends” initiative prioritizes whole fruits and vegetables while eliminating a “No-No List” of over 70 ingredients, including artificial flavors, colors, preservatives, and added sugars from many of its smoothies.
During the third quarter or 2024, Smoothie King reported 38 new store commitments and 28 new store openings across 16 states.
Key moves during the period included expansions into two new states (New Hampshire and Delaware), the grand opening of a new Austin, Texas location—the first in the area in three years—a flagship store opening at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, and the opening of two new stores in Colorado as part of a broader expansion plan for the state.
According to Smoothie King, about 70% of the year’s growth has been driven by existing franchisees. Founded in 1973, Smoothie King began franchising in 1989.
