Challenge the Outdoors (CTO), a local nonprofit in Green Bay, WI, is celebrating the grand opening of its new recreational facility at Peter’s Pond in Angelica, Wis. The event will take place on Sunday, August 18, and will feature a pig roast, refreshments, facility tours, pond fishing, and a brief program at 3:00 p.m. The new clubhouse and pond are wheelchair accessible, with features like a kitchen, restrooms, and accessible fishing piers.
CTO was previously operating out of office space provided by Home Instead in Green Bay. However, thanks to the generosity of Steve and Kristi Nooyen, the owners of Home Instead, CTO now has a permanent home on 13 acres of land in Angelica. The Nooyens donated the land and covered all building and development costs, totaling about $1.5 million. Steve Nooyen, a longtime volunteer and past board member of CTO, expressed his excitement about the new facility and its potential for providing quality outdoor experiences for people with disabilities.
In addition to supporting CTO, Steve and Kristi are also the founders of Wheelchair Whitetails, a program that offers hunting opportunities in northern Wisconsin for individuals with disabilities. CTO, founded in 1998, provides outdoor and recreational programming for disabled sportsmen and sportswomen in the Northeast Wisconsin area. With over 100 local volunteers, CTO offers events and services that enable physically challenged individuals to participate in hunting, fishing, and other outdoor activities.
