Riverside County Secures Funding to Expand Apprenticeship Training Programs
Riverside County, CA – Riverside County has been selected as one of six entities in the state of California to receive funding for the development of new apprenticeship training programs in high-demand industries. The initiative, known as the Inland Empire Designing Equitable Apprenticeships (IEDEA), aims to expand apprenticeships, create opportunities for underserved populations, and ensure that the region’s workforce is aligned with the evolving needs of employers and the economy.
Over the course of the three-year grant period, the IEDEA program will train and place more than 380 candidates into apprenticeship career pathways within five key industries: IT and Cybersecurity, Healthcare, Manufacturing, Transportation and Logistics, and the Public Sector. These industries have been identified as significant drivers of the region’s economy, presenting a unique opportunity to enhance non-traditional apprenticeships, bolster local sectors, and modernize the workforce.
Patrick Ellis, Chair of the Riverside County Workforce Development Board, expressed his enthusiasm for the program, stating, “Apprenticeship programs are breaking new ground in multiple industries in California, and there is no better place to make this happen than in the Inland Empire. We are pleased to have been selected to expand apprenticeships that will provide training and high-paying job opportunities for our region.”
The funding for the program was made possible by the California Department of Industrial Relations and its Division of Apprenticeship Standards, which received $7.3 million dollars from the Department of Labor to expand apprenticeships in California to underserved communities.
