DigiCert, Inc. has released its 2024 State of Digital Trust Survey, which evaluates how businesses worldwide are managing digital trust within their companies. The survey revealed that there is a significant gap between the businesses that are excelling in digital trust, known as “leaders”, and those that are struggling, referred to as “laggards”. The top 33% in digital trust experienced an increase in revenue, better digital innovation, and greater employee productivity. They were also better prepared for post-quantum cryptography and better able to take advantage of the benefits of IoT. In contrast, the laggards performed poorly in these categories and had more difficulty reaping the rewards of digital innovation. The research also uncovered differences in the management of digital trust, showing that leaders had fewer system outages, data breaches, and compliance issues, as compared to the laggards.
In response to the findings, Jason Sabin, Chief Technology Officer at DigiCert, stated that the gap between companies excelling in digital trust and those lagging behind is continuing to grow. Jennifer Glenn, research director at IDC, added that companies need to actively implement the structure, processes, and activities that make digital trust possible.
The survey included responses from 300 senior-level and C-level IT, information security, and DevOps leaders at companies with 1,000 or more employees in North America, Europe, and the APAC region.
