A ‘Sweet’ franchisee competition at Batteries Plus

The winner of the new Batteries Plus franchisee competition will receive an award of $30,000 in cash.

With March Madness just weeks away, Batteries Plus is conducting a new initiative designed to drive franchisee performance.

The new Sweet 16 initiative looks to gamify training and sales goals while bringing together the top-performing stores in a celebration of expertise, team-building, and customer service.

The competition is currently underway with the top 16 stores from across the Batteries Plus system going head to head in a series of skill-based challenges. Through April, the stores are competing to advance to the Elite Eight, Final Four, and ultimately the championship event.

The winner will receive an award of $30,000 in cash and other prizes at PlusCon, the company’s 2025 National Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada scheduled for May 14-15.

For Batteries Plus Chief Operating Officer, Joe Sica, the competition is as much about store performance as it is about driving company culture.

“At Batteries Plus, expertise is at the heart of everything we do,” Sica said. “The Plus Games were created to reward and celebrate that expertise, motivating our teams to deliver exceptional performance and service through fun, competitive challenges. By fostering this environment, we’re building a stronger culture of excellence and collaboration across the franchise system.”

The competition was based on a detailed performance evaluation, which was conducted over the past three months. Key metrics being measured included total sales, key fob sales, flashlight sales, lifetime watch battery attachment rate, the percentage of tickets with an attachment,

Among the standout locations are Corey Robinson’s Davenport, Iowa, store, which has been a community staple for more than 30 years, and Trent Labry’s Carencro, Louisiana, location, which has rapidly made a name for itself in commercial sales since opening less than five years ago. Additionally, the Tampa area is strongly represented by the Epps Group, a multi-unit ownership team with multiple stores qualifying for the Sweet 16.

“This isn’t just about winning,” said Jason Moss, Batteries Plus vice president of store development and training. “The Plus Games provide franchisees with the tools and incentives they need to rally their teams, build expertise, and ultimately deliver a better experience for their customers. It’s a celebration of the skills and dedication that make our franchisees successful.”
