Smoothie King forms new investment partnership

Private equity group Main Post Partners is now a minority investor in the brand.

Smoothie King announced that it has received new funding through a financial partnership with a private equity firm.

San Francisco-based Main Post Partners, a consumer-focused private equity group, has become a minority growth investor in the food and beverage franchise brand. According to Smoothie King, the partnership marks a new chapter for the franchise and positions it for “accelerated growth, innovation, and market leadership.”

The financial details of the investment from Main Post Partners was not revealed. Smoothie King said the partnership “signals a strong vote of confidence in Smoothie King’s vision, team, and long-term potential.”

“At Smoothie King, our vision is to make the world a better place by nourishing healthy habits, and that starts with having partners who share our vision and embrace our values,” said Wan Kim, CEO and majority shareholder of Smoothie King. “We have been extremely impressed by Main Post’s track record of growing franchise brands the right way – by building a strong culture, focusing on the guest, and always thinking long term.”

Based in Dallas, Texas and founded in 1973, Smoothie King has more than 1,200 locations nationally. The franchise welcomed its 1,200th location in Roanoke, Texas last November.

Prioritizing healthy options has been at the forefront of Smoothie King’s success. The brand said it is committed to inspiring a healthy and active lifestyle through its “Clean Blends.” The strategy focuses on providing smoothies with whole fruits and vegetables while removing artificial flavors, colors and preservatives and added sugars in many of its offerings. 

Smoothie King also offers retail products such as sports beverages, energy bars, vitamins, and supplements.
