Wuhu Xuanzhou Airport introduces air route to Hanoi

A new international air cargo route connecting Wuhu City in China with Hanoi, Vietnam, has officially launched, with the first flight operated by JD Airlines touching down at Wuhu Xuanzhou Airport. This milestone marks Wuhu’s efforts to expand its global connectivity and enhance its participation in the global economy. The airport aims to establish itself as an internationally competitive air cargo hub by building a globally accessible international air cargo network.

Wuhu Xuanzhou Airport received approval from the National Port Management Office in March 2024 to temporarily operate cargo business, paving the way for the opening of the Wuhu-Hanoi international air cargo route. The airport, which began operations in 1994 and officially opened in April 2021, currently boasts 41 passenger and six cargo-only routes. It is classified as a medium-sized civil airport and a specialized air cargo hub.

In 2023, the airport witnessed a significant increase in passenger traffic, reaching 1.23 million, marking a 218 percent rise from the previous year. Cargo and mail volumes also saw a substantial increase, surpassing 20,000 tons, a 314 percent year-on-year increase. The airport has continued this growth trajectory into 2024, with cargo and mail throughput reaching 11,600 tons in the first five months, marking a 191 percent increase from the same period in the previous year.

The launch of the Wuhu-Hanoi international air cargo route is a significant step towards strengthening economic ties between China and Vietnam. By facilitating the transportation of goods between the two countries, this air cargo route will contribute to the growth of trade and business relations. The increased connectivity provided by this new route will benefit businesses seeking efficient and reliable transportation solutions for their cargo shipments.

The airport’s commitment to enhancing its air cargo capabilities aligns with Wuhu’s broader vision of becoming a key player in the global aviation industry. With a focus on building a competitive international air cargo network, Wuhu Xuanzhou Airport is set to play a pivotal role in driving economic growth and development in the region.
