Week 2 rankings: USC rises, Clemson drops in college football

In the latest AP top 25 rankings, Georgia secured the top spot with 57 first-place votes, followed by Ohio State, Texas, Alabama, and Notre Dame rounding out the top five. Teams like Ole Miss, Oregon, and Penn State also made significant moves up the rankings after strong performances in Week 1.

Notable shifts in the rankings include Oregon dropping four spots after a close win over an FCS opponent, while USC climbed up 10 spots following a statement win against LSU. Florida State, previously ranked No. 10, fell out of the rankings altogether after an 0-2 start to the season.

Clemson also saw a significant drop of 11 spots after a rough start to the season, prompting head coach Dabo Swinney to rethink his strategies moving forward. Iowa, on the other hand, moved up four spots thanks to an improved offensive performance compared to last season.

Looking ahead to Week 2, college football fans can expect more excitement and upsets as teams continue to jockey for position in the rankings. Stay tuned for more updates and analysis from Sports Illustrated’s College Football HQ as the season progresses.
