Washington State Passes Franchise Bill for RVs – RVBusiness

The Washington State Senate recently passed legislation (HB 1996) to create an RV-specific franchise law governing the manufacturer-dealer relationship for towable RVs, similar to legislation in Wisconsin. With bipartisan support, thanks to Washington State Representatives Eric Robertson, Mike Chapman, and Jenny Graham, the bill now awaits Governor Jay Inslee’s signature.

This legislation, a result of collaboration between the RV Industry Association, RV dealers, and the Washington State Auto Dealers Association, aims to provide a clear framework for manufacturer-dealer agreements and protections for consumers in Washington state. By creating an RV-specific franchise law, the RV industry can better address the unique needs of RV manufacturers and dealers compared to the automobile industry.

Passage of this legislation is expected to benefit consumers, manufacturers, and dealers by streamlining warranty matters, pre-delivery inspections, and other issues related to the RV purchasing process. Consumers will also have the peace of mind knowing that the dealer who sold them an RV will continue to carry those brands.

Mike Ochs, RVIA Director of State Affairs, testified in support of the bill, highlighting the positive impact this legislation will have on the towable segment of the RV industry in Washington. The leadership and dedication of Rep. Robertson and his cosponsors have been instrumental in pushing this bill forward to benefit the RV industry as a whole.

Stay tuned for updates on the final approval of the bill by Governor Inslee as it moves towards implementation in the state.
