A stunning bouquet of 30 tulips, including the beautiful pink Mariage tulip, was delivered to a house in Northwest Washington. The delicate tulips exuded the delightful scents of honey and citrus, adding a touch of elegance to the home just in time for Valentine’s Day.
The journey of the Mariage tulip began last October in the basement of a bungalow-style house in Alexandria. Inspired by her love for growing tulips in her backyard and a virtual class she took, Katie Burke and her husband Daniel decided to start their own tulip growing business, Port City Flowers. They transformed their basement into a blooming oasis with the help of dehumidifiers, fans, LED lights, and hydroponic trays, planting around 2,000 bulbs.
The hard work and dedication of Katie and Daniel paid off as the basement was soon filled with the vibrant colors of tulips, including the Pamplona tulips, Dream Touch, and the lovely Mariage tulips. With 140 tulips ready to be harvested, Katie prepared them for delivery to a local flower shop, Little Acre Flowers, just outside Adams Morgan.
Amber Flack, the owner of Little Acre Flowers, welcomed the tulips and incorporated them into her Valentine’s Day arrangements. Little Acres prides itself on selling locally grown flowers as they last longer and are better for the environment. The locally cultivated tulips were a delightful addition to her shop, complementing the other flowers arriving from across the region.
Finally, the bouquet featuring the Mariage tulip was delivered by Todd Geiwitz to a home in Northwest Washington. As the recipient, Lauren Laitin, received the beautiful flowers, she expressed her gratitude, saying, “Thank you so much. This is so awesome.”
The meticulous care, dedication, and passion put into the cultivation and delivery of the Mariage tulip showcase the beauty of locally grown blooms. It’s a testament to the hard work of individuals like Katie and Daniel, and the commitment of businesses like Little Acre Flowers to bring joy to customers through their exquisite floral creations. This heartwarming story serves as a reminder of the simple pleasures and elegance flowers can bring into our lives, especially during celebratory occasions like Valentine’s Day.
