Three lives were lost in Burnsville, Minnesota during a tragic domestic incident on Sunday. A tragic alert was received which prompted a response from the police officers. Burnsville city officials have confirmed the tragic loss of two officers, Paul Elmstrand and Matthew Ruge, along with a firefighter and paramedic, Adam Finseth. Another officer, Adam Medlicott, was also injured during the incident and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
The series of unfortunate events began at 1:50 a.m. when police were called to a residence about a report that an armed man was barricaded inside with his family members. At approximately 8 a.m., the suspect was reported to be dead. The city of Burnsville has notified that the other family members have since left the home and are safe, without any ongoing threat.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives shared that they were responding to a “domestic-related shooting” in Burnsville. Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar expressed her prayers and concern for the officers involved in the shooting.

The city of Golden Valley and the West St. Paul police departments have offered their heartfelt condolences and prayers to the families and colleagues of the fallen officers.
Burnsville, which was incorporated in 1964, is a suburb with a population of more than 64,000 and is located just south of the twin cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul.
