The Sequel To Ridley Scott’s $403 Million Sci-Fi Movie Proves It Should Have Been The Start Of A Franchise

The Continuation of Ridley Scott’s Hit Sci-Fi Movie Suggests It Should Have Kicked Off a Franchise

The Alien franchise took a step back with Ridley Scott’s prequels, Prometheus and Alien: Covenant. While Prometheus set up a fascinating new story about the origins of the Xenomorph and the human race, Alien: Covenant failed to deliver on the promises made by its predecessor. Instead of continuing the new ideas introduced in Prometheus, Covenant played it safe by being a more traditional Alien movie. The lack of closure between the two films left fans disappointed, and the potential for a third installment in Scott’s prequel franchise was lost.

Prometheus, on the other hand, could have stood on its own as a separate franchise without being tied to the Alien series. The themes and characters in Prometheus were strong enough to carry the film without the need for the Xenomorph connection. Despite some flaws, Prometheus introduced a whole new story that deserved to be continued in a meaningful way, which unfortunately did not happen with Alien: Covenant.

Moving forward, the Alien franchise is set to return with Alien: Earth, promising to be a return to form for the series. While Alien: Covenant may have missed the mark, the success of Alien: Romulus shows that there is still potential for new and exciting stories within the Alien universe. Fans can look forward to the upcoming projects in the franchise and hope for a more satisfying continuation of the story that Prometheus started.
