Taiwan-U.S. Education Partnership Boosted: FICHET at NAFSA 2024

The NAFSA 2024 Annual Conference & Expo in New Orleans showcased Taiwan’s commitment to global education cooperation. Dr. Cheng-Chi Wu led a delegation of 40 representatives from 20 Taiwanese universities to explore collaborations with the United States. With a focus on resilience, renewal, and community, NAFSA provided a platform for international partnerships in the post-pandemic era.

Highlighting Taiwan’s technological advancements, the Study in Taiwan Pavilion at the expo showcased innovations in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, space satellites, circular economy, and healthcare. This demonstrated Taiwan’s dedication to aligning higher education with global technological progress and contributing to the international community through collaboration.

The longstanding partnership between Taiwan and the U.S. in higher education was emphasized by Dr. Wu, highlighting the success of the U.S.-Taiwan Education Initiative. The symposium held at the Loews New Orleans Hotel facilitated discussions on Mandarin language education, cooperation in research projects, and mutual understanding between the two countries.

The Taiwan Night networking event brought together Taiwanese university representatives, officials from the U.S. Department of State, and global partners to strengthen bilateral friendships through engaging discussions. Additionally, the Taiwan-Czech Networking Event laid the groundwork for collaboration opportunities between Taiwanese and Czech universities, paving the way for future forums enhancing cooperation between the two nations.

As Taiwan continues to play a significant role in international education, events like the NAFSA 2024 Annual Conference & Expo serve as essential platforms for fostering global partnerships. By showcasing Taiwan’s advancements in science and technology and promoting collaboration with the U.S. and other countries, Taiwan is advancing its commitment to higher education on a global scale.
