Supernal, an Advanced Air Mobility company, has announced the appointment of David McBride as the head of their Engineering and Technology Division. With over 40 years of experience in aerospace technology and program management, McBride will lead Supernal in bringing their innovative all-electric aircraft to market by 2028.
During his time at NASA, McBride served as the director of the Armstrong Flight Research Center and played a key role in developing groundbreaking technologies, including an all-electric aircraft and the record-breaking flight of the solar-powered Helios aircraft. His expertise will be instrumental in overseeing Supernal’s team of 400 employees as they work on vehicle engineering, testing, evaluation, certification, and research and development.
In a statement, Jaiwon Shin, president of Hyundai Motor Group and CEO of Supernal, expressed his excitement about McBride joining the team, highlighting his track record of turning the ‘impossible’ into ‘possible’ in aviation. McBride himself is eager to help certify and commercialize the aircraft that Supernal has been diligently working on for the past several years.
With a focus on building the right product for the market, Supernal aims to make electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicles widely accessible in the coming decades. As part of Hyundai Motor Group, the company is leveraging world-class manufacturing, automation, supply chain, and R&D expertise to develop a safe and efficient transportation option for the future.
