Suda51, Shinji Mikami Aim to Revive Dormant Franchise

Fans of Suda 51 and Shinji Mikami’s cult classic game Killer7 may have something to look forward to in the future, as the two legendary developers have expressed interest in bringing back the title with a new game or remastered version. Originally released in 2005, Killer7 garnered attention for its unique visuals and bizarre story, despite receiving mixed reviews at the time. The game follows an elite group of assassins manifested by an elderly man named Harman Smith and features striking cel-shaded graphics.

During a recent Grasshopper Direct 2024 presentation, Suda 51 and Shinji Mikami discussed the possibility of revisiting Killer7, with Mikami expressing interest in creating a sequel and Suda 51 suggesting a “Complete Edition” of the original game with additional content. This updated version could potentially include restored cut dialogue for the character Coyote Smith, providing fans with new material to enjoy. Mikami believes that updating Killer7 for modern hardware would be “doable” and that fans would appreciate the opportunity to experience the cult classic on current platforms.

While a PC port of Killer7 was released in 2018, rumors of a Nintendo Switch port in 2020 were dispelled. Suda 51 has previously mentioned the challenges of creating a sequel due to Capcom holding the IP rights, but has expressed interest in working on one if given the opportunity. With both developers showing enthusiasm for revisiting Killer7, fans may have a chance to see the game return in some form in the future.

Overall, the potential return of Killer7 with new content and modern updates has generated excitement among fans of Suda 51 and Shinji Mikami’s work. Stay tuned for more updates on the development of a remastered version or sequel to this beloved cult classic.
