Southwest Airlines expands tech facility in Phoenix




Southwest Airlines has recently expanded their technical operations center at Phoenix’s Sky Harbor Airport. This expansion will provide many opportunities for the Arizona-based workforce and the community. This new state-of-the-art hangar has achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification. The expansion is designed to be sustainable and incorporates recycled materials, heat reflection technology, and eco-friendly building products.

Southwest Airlines began operations in the Phoenix market in 1982. Since then, the airline has established an extensive network across the region, providing nonstop service to over 60 destinations across the United States and Mexico. The carrier has expanded its operations at Sky Harbor and now operates from 32 gates, including a new eight-gate concourse. This expansion is designed to support Southwest’s continued growth and success.

The airline’s local workforce of over 5,400 in the Phoenix area is dedicated to improving their community and the quality of life for its residents. Last year, Southwest Employees volunteered more than 10,000 hours while supporting over 200 local organizations.
