The long-awaited sequel to the 1996 hit film “Twister” is finally making its way to the big screen. “Twisters” follows storm chasers Kate Cooper and Tyler Owens as they attempt to tackle the immense power of tornadoes.
In the highly-anticipated trailer for “Twisters,” Kate (played by Daisy Edgar-Jones) and Tyler (played by Glen Powell) are seen facing terrifying tornadoes that rip through towns, tear down telephone wires, and wreak havoc. The pair’s mission is to predict and possibly tame these destructive natural forces.
“You don’t face your fears, you ride them,” proclaims Powell’s character, embodying the fearless spirit of storm-chasers. As storm season intensifies, new and terrifying phenomena are unleashed, putting Kate, Tyler, and their rival teams in the path of multiple converging storm systems over central Oklahoma.
The trailer dropped during Super Bowl Sunday night, generating major buzz ahead of the film’s release date in theaters on July 19. Directed by two-time Oscar nominee Lee Isaac Chung, known for his work on “Minari,” and with a script from Mark L. Smith, co-writer of “The Revenant” and “The Boys in the Boat,” “Twisters” promises to be a thrilling and visually stunning cinematic experience.
The sequel pays homage to its predecessor, “Twister,” which was a box office success, earning nearly $500 million worldwide and receiving two Academy Award nominations for best sound and best visual effects. The 1996 classic starred Helen Hunt and the late Bill Paxton as estranged spouses who join forces to study tornadoes in Oklahoma.
Fans of the original film can expect the same heart-pounding action and thrilling special effects in “Twisters,” as well as a new story that expands on the world of storm chasing. With a talented cast and crew behind the scenes, including the director of “Minari” and a writer with credits on critically acclaimed films, “Twisters” is shaping up to be a must-see summer blockbuster. Get ready for the storm of the season as “Twisters” hits theaters this summer.
