SCO Advances and Expands Family Ties for Greater Cooperation

The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route was recently inaugurated in Kazakhstan, allowing Chinese trucks to reach the Caspian Sea via a road transport route. This new addition complements the existing Chinese-European freight trains that have been operating successfully in the region. The project underscores the strong collaboration between China and Kazakhstan, both founding members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), which promotes mutual trust, benefit, and common development.

The cooperation within the SCO was highlighted during the recent summit where member states emphasized the importance of ensuring global security and peace. Chinese President Xi Jinping called for a united approach to address security challenges and promote disarmament. The Astana Declaration, adopted during the summit, focuses on combating terrorism, drug trafficking, and transnational organized crime. Furthermore, the SCO urged UN member states to work towards disarmament and oppose an arms race in outer space.

The summit also emphasized the need for economic cooperation among SCO members for mutual benefit and inclusive development. China’s initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) have been instrumental in promoting trade and connectivity within the region. The China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project, a key component of the BRI, aims to enhance trade and connectivity between the countries. Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev lauded the project, noting its potential to open up major markets in South Asia and the Middle East.

The SCO members also emphasized the importance of maintaining an open, transparent, and inclusive multilateral trading system to facilitate global economic growth. With its vast geographical coverage and large population, the SCO presents strategic opportunities for developing regional transport corridors and fostering economic cooperation.

Overall, the recent developments within the SCO reflect a commitment to fostering cooperation, mutual benefit, and peaceful development among member states. The newly inaugurated Trans-Caspian International Transport Route in Kazakhstan and the ongoing initiatives such as the BRI demonstrate the region’s potential for economic growth and connectivity. Additionally, the focus on security cooperation and disarmament highlights the SCO’s commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region and beyond.
