Rutgers Cancer Institute & RWJBarnabas Health Present New Cancer Research at 2024 ASCO Meeting

The 2024 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting is set to feature 49 presentations led by clinicians and scientists from Rutgers Cancer Institute and RWJBarnabas Health. These sessions will delve into various types of cancer and the next frontier of health equity, with topics such as the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) audit of enhanced recovery after surgery protocols for radical cystectomy and the impact of social vulnerability on clinical trial enrollment.

Steven K. Libutti MD, FACS, Director of Rutgers Cancer Institute and Senior Vice President of Oncology Services at RWJBarnabas Health, expressed his excitement about the groundbreaking research that will be shared at the conference. As New Jersey’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, Rutgers Cancer Institute is dedicated to advancing cancer research and care to benefit patients.

One of the key abstracts to be presented at ASCO will explore how social vulnerability affects clinical trial enrollment and the interaction between race and social vulnerability among cancer patients. Additionally, findings from a study on the utilization of enhanced recovery after surgery protocols for radical cystectomy and updates on the Phase 1/1b study investigating the AKT inhibitor ipatasertib will be shared.

The conference will also include data from a Phase 3 clinical trial evaluating the efficacy and safety of odronextamab plus CHOP vs rituximab plus CHOP in patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, as well as findings from the CIPHER study on circulating tumor DNA testing during neoadjuvant therapy for breast cancer.

Rutgers Cancer Institute, in partnership with RWJBarnabas Health, offers advanced cancer treatment options such as bone marrow transplantation, proton therapy, CAR T-cell therapy, and precision medicine. Patients have access to cutting-edge therapies at Rutgers Cancer Institute in New Brunswick and University Hospital in Newark, as well as through RWJBarnabas Health facilities.
