Rehoboth Beach Resident Karen E. West Recognized as Woman of the Month
Karen E. West, a resident of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, has been honored as the Woman of the Month for November 2023 by P.O.W.E.R. (Professional Organization of Women of Excellence Recognized). This recognition comes as a result of West’s outstanding contributions and achievements in the field of finance.
An Accomplished Career
After a successful career spanning over 40 years in financial services, Karen E. West achieved the distinction of being named the first female vice president of the major investment firm, Vanguard Group. At Vanguard, she served as the principal, fund controller, and was on the board of directors. Her expertise includes extensive knowledge of mutual funds, fiscal compliance, IRA’s, ETS’s, 401K, and financial investments.
West’s Early Beginnings
A Sussex County native, Karen E. West’s journey to success began in her hometown where her parents owned a grocery store. She performed bookkeeping tasks for the family business, and her mother’s encouragement led her to enroll in the business program at Goldey-Beacom College in Newark, Delaware. After being advised to include investment studies in her curriculum, West discovered her passion for this field and pursued it as her career.
A Remarkable Career Trajectory
After graduating, West worked in various financial roles, including a position at Sears Roebuck’s acceptance department before joining Wellington Management Company. She eventually made her way to Vanguard Group, where she received numerous awards and accolades, ultimately becoming the company’s first female vice president.
Recognition and Volunteering
Karen E. West’s accomplishments have not gone unnoticed. This is her second recognition by P.O.W.E.R. as Woman of the Month, and she has been selected for multiple awards from Strathmore’s Who’s Who Worldwide. Since retiring, West has been actively involved in volunteer work, serving as chairwoman and chair of investments for the Epworth United Methodist Church and as an ordained deacon at the United Church of Christ.
