NFL star Richard Sherman arrested for DUI in Washington

Former Seattle Seahawks cornerback and NFL analyst Richard Sherman was arrested in King County, Washington early Saturday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence. The 35-year-old Super Bowl veteran was taken into custody by Washington State Patrol and booked into King County Correctional Facility.

According to Washington state law, DUI is defined as driving under the influence of alcohol, marijuana, or any drug with a blood alcohol level of 0.08 or higher. It is unclear what substance Sherman was allegedly under the influence of at the time of his arrest.

This is not Sherman’s first brush with the law relating to DUI. In 2021, he was arrested for driving under the influence after crashing his SUV in a construction zone and attempting to break into his in-laws’ home. He pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts in March 2022 and received a suspended jail sentence as long as he stayed out of trouble.

Sherman announced a shift to TV appearances in 2022, joining Amazon Prime Video as an analyst for its “Thursday Night Football” franchise. Despite stepping away from the field, he left the possibility open for a return to playing in the future.

The former Seahawks star had a successful career that included two Super Bowl appearances with Seattle, a Super Bowl victory in 2014, and playing for the San Francisco 49ers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Sherman, who grew up in South Los Angeles and attended Stanford University, studied communication.

Diana Dasrath and Joe Kottke of NBC News provided reporting on this story, while Dennis Romero and The Associated Press also contributed.

Overall, Sherman’s recent arrest comes as a setback in his post-football career as a TV analyst and serves as a reminder of the consequences of driving under the influence. It is important for individuals to make responsible choices and seek help if needed to prevent dangerous situations like these.
