The National Coalition on Black Civic Participation (NCBCP), National Black Women’s Roundtable (BWR), in partnership with Louisiana Black Women’s Roundtable and Mississippi Black Women’s Roundtable, are excited to announce the 10th Annual Black Women’s Roundtable Gathering & Jazz Brunch, happening during Essence Fest 2024. This event will feature two Power Talk Tables focusing on Leveraging the Power of the Black Women and Youth Vote in the 2024 Presidential Election, with influential leaders and media personalities. The discussions will include insights from the 9th Annual BWR/Essence Poll conducted by HIT Strategies and entertainment by Jazz Vocalist Stephanie Jordan and Harpist Cassie Watson Francillon.
The Power Talk Tables will highlight the crucial role that Black women will play in the upcoming election and its impact on the Black community. Moderated by Angela Rye and Tiffany Cross, the discussions will delve into voting rights, reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ rights, workers’ rights, and more. Melanie L. Campbell, President & CEO of the National Black Women’s Roundtable, emphasizes the importance of leveraging the power of the Black women’s vote and Black youth vote in shaping the future of democracy.
Cassandra Welchlin, Executive Director of the Mississippi Black Women’s Roundtable, stresses the significance of addressing critical issues such as the wage gap, access to healthcare, and shifting power at the voting booth and policy table. Gwendolyn Hughes, Convener of the Louisiana Black Women’s Roundtable, acknowledges the immense power that Black women hold in our democracy and the importance of amplifying their voices.
The Black Women’s Roundtable Jazz Brunch and Women of Power Gathering will celebrate and advance the leadership and influence of Black women across the nation and globally. The National Coalition on Black Civic Participation (NCBCP) is dedicated to increasing civic engagement and voter participation in Black and underserved communities, with the National Black Women’s Roundtable focusing on promoting health and wellness, economic security, education, and global empowerment. State affiliates and networks in 12 states and the District of Columbia work to empower Black women and girls and address issues such as wage gaps, access to healthcare, and quality childcare.
The Mississippi Black Women’s Roundtable and Louisiana Black Women’s Roundtable are intergenerational civic engagement networks committed to increasing the civic, economic, and political power of Black women and girls in their respective states. These organizations empower Black women and girls to take on leadership roles and address critical issues within their communities and beyond.
The Black Women’s Roundtable Gathering & Jazz Brunch during Essence Fest 2024 will continue the tradition of celebrating and advancing the leadership of Black women, emphasizing the importance of their voices in shaping the future of democracy.
