National Honors for Public Works Pros

National Public Works Week is almost here, celebrated by the American Public Works Association’s 32,000 members across North America. This year, NPWW will take place from May 19-25, 2024, shining a spotlight on the crucial role public works professionals play in advancing the quality of life for our communities.

With the theme “Advancing Quality of Life for All,” this year’s celebration highlights the various ways public works professionals improve our daily lives, from responding to emergencies like power outages to ensuring regular waste pickup services. Public works professionals work tirelessly behind the scenes to provide essential services such as transportation, water and wastewater treatment, emergency management, and more, making our communities safe and enjoyable places to live.

APWA President, Gary Losier PEng, expresses admiration for how public works agencies celebrate NPWW, whether by organizing public tours of facilities or hosting events for families. It’s a great opportunity for municipalities to showcase the invaluable contributions of public works professionals and educate the public on their essential role in community development.

CEO Scott Grayson CAE emphasizes the importance of acknowledging and honoring the efforts of public works professionals who dedicate themselves to enhancing our quality of life. Resolutions and proclamations by local officials mark the week with celebrations, parades, and events recognizing the hard work of these professionals.
