NASA’s Northrop Grumman recently launched its 21st commercial resupply mission to the International Space Station, carrying over 8,200 pounds of supplies. Despite a minor setback during the launch, engineers are working to adjust the trajectory for a successful arrival at the ISS.
The resupply mission includes a variety of research experiments, such as testing liquid and gas flow through porous media, demonstrating centripetal force with everyday objects, and examining the effects of spaceflight on DNA repair mechanisms. These investigations are crucial for advancing human exploration and scientific knowledge.
NASA astronauts are scheduled to capture the Cygnus spacecraft using the station’s robotic arm, with live coverage available on NASA TV, the agency’s app, and website. This mission is part of NASA’s Artemis campaign, which aims to prepare for future expeditions to Mars by sending astronauts to the Moon.
After completing its mission at the ISS, Cygnus will dispose of trash by re-entering Earth’s atmosphere. The spacecraft, named S.S. Francis R. “Dick” Scobee, honors the legacy of a former NASA astronaut.
