NASA astronaut Loral O’Hara successfully returned to Earth on April 6, 2024, after a six-month research mission aboard the International Space Station. Accompanied by Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Novitskiy and Belarus spaceflight participant Marina Vasilevskaya, the trio landed safely in Kazakhstan after departing the space station aboard the Soyuz MS-24 spacecraft.
During her mission, O’Hara contributed to NASA’s Artemis campaign, which aims to pave the way for future exploration of the Moon and crewed missions to Mars. She completed over 3,264 orbits of the Earth and traveled more than 86.5 million miles while conducting scientific activities related to heart health, cancer treatments, and space manufacturing techniques.
Upon their return to Earth, the crew will undergo medical checks in Karaganda, Kazakhstan, before O’Hara heads back to NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston. With the undocking of the Soyuz MS-24 spacecraft, Expedition 71 officially began aboard the International Space Station, with a team of NASA astronauts and Roscosmos cosmonauts set to remain on the orbiting laboratory until fall.
