The program offers employees the opportunity to earn bachelor’s degrees or specialized certifications, including in-demand roles like surgical technologists.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there is a growing demand for surgical technologists, with an estimated 5,900 to 8,600 jobs being created each year through 2032. Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare has been successful in filling vacant surgical technologist positions across its hospitals through the MAAP.
The program, in partnership with the University of Memphis, has helped more than 150 employees advance their careers, increase their salaries, and enhance their earning potential. Employees in good standing are eligible to join the program after six months of employment, and they can pursue advanced education degrees and certifications with little to no out-of-pocket expenses.
Crystal Rivera, a former unit coordinator at Methodist South Hospital, found her passion in the surgical technology program after a cancer diagnosis disrupted her plans to become a nurse. The program allowed her to align her love for a fast-paced clinical setting with direct patient engagement.
Tyreese Bell, a patient escort at Methodist South and a new father, saw MAAP as his ticket to long-term financial stability for his family. After passing his certification exam, he became the first in his class of emergency medical technicians to do so.
