Maria K. Gay Named VIP for Fall 2024 by P.O.W.E.R.

Maria K. Gay, a dedicated business owner and advocate for children in Louisville, Kentucky, has been named a VIP for Fall 2024 by P.O.W.E.R. Magazine. Gay’s outstanding contributions in the non-profit/volunteering industry have earned her this prestigious recognition.

With a passion for working with children, Gay’s journey began as a babysitter for neighborhood kids and family members. Her dedication led her to pursue studies in early childhood education and eventually to a career as an assistant director at Candyland Daycare at just 19 years old. Along the way, Gay expanded her knowledge in culinary arts and discovered a passion for baking and decorating, leading to the creation of Maddalena’s Cupcakes LLC.

When the COVID-19 pandemic struck in 2019, Gay saw a need for support services for children with autism, including her own son. With the help of COVID funding, she opened Little Genius Academy, which quickly reached capacity and expanded to a second location within six months. This center became home to Excellent Puzzle Pieces Inc. and Mother Theresa’s Learning Academy, offering essential support and education for children and families.

Now, Gay is working towards expanding to a third location, focusing on nurturing the business skills of the children in her care. Her 10-year-old daughter, Maddalena, along with her nieces, have also developed their own unique businesses, demonstrating the entrepreneurial spirit Gay instills in those around her.

Maria K. Gay’s educational background includes a degree in child and human development from Bowling Green High School, an associate’s degree in child psychology from Western Kentucky University, a degree in culinary arts from Sullivan University, and a Commonwealth Child Care Director Credential from Eastern Kentucky University.
