Maika Monroe Eyes Revival of 1984 Horror Franchise

Maika Monroe, known for her work in the horror and thriller genres, has expressed her dream of joining the iconic A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. After starring in the successful horror movie Longlegs, which opened to $22.6 million at the box office, Monroe revealed in an interview that she would love to be a part of the franchise that terrified her as a child. The Nightmare on Elm Street series has not seen a proper installment since 2010, and many actors and directors, including horror veteran Mike Flanagan, have shown interest in rebooting the franchise. However, due to complicated rights issues following Wes Craven’s death, bringing a new installment to life has been challenging. Flanagan has developed a concept for a reboot but is unsure who to pitch it to, even discussing the idea with original Nightmare on Elm Street star Heather Langenkamp. With Monroe’s status as a certified scream queen and her past roles in horror films, she would be the perfect star to lead a revival of the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. If the rights issues can be sorted out, a reboot may finally take form with both Monroe and Flanagan showing interest in the project. A Nightmare on Elm Street, directed by Wes Craven and released in 1984, follows a group of teenagers plagued by shared nightmares about a mysterious man named Freddy Krueger. As they work to solve the mystery and stop the vengeful figure from claiming their lives, they uncover dark secrets about their parents. With its iconic status in the horror genre, a reboot of A Nightmare on Elm Street has the potential to captivate audiences once again.
