The Love Live! franchise is expanding with its first-ever live-action series adaptation titled Love Live! School Idol Musical the Drama. The series is based on the franchise’s first stage musical and will premiere on various TV channels on November 21. The musical features new characters and settings, focusing on students from two renowned schools in Hyogo and Osaka.
The series’ cast includes Miho Watanabe, Nanaka Tomita, Nanami Asai, Ayaka Yasumoto, Julia Ann, Yuna Nakamura, Mizuki Yamauchi, Rina, Akari Yura, and Airi Yamamoto. Keijirō Tsubakimoto and Hiroto Totsuka are directing the series, with scripts by Kōki Kishimoto who also directed the stage musical.
The stage musical premiered at the New National Theatre in Tokyo in December 2022 and at the Umeda Arts Theater in Osaka in January 2023. More performances are scheduled for various venues in Tokyo and Osaka in the coming years. Fans of the Love Live! franchise can also look forward to the first film of Love Live! Nijigasaki School Idol Festival and the third season of Love Live! Superstar!! anime series.
