Kahawa 1893 Coffee, the first nationally distributed Black and woman-owned premium coffee brand, is now available in K-Cup pod format for Keurig brewers. Founded by Margaret Nyamumbo in 2017, Kahawa 1893 sources coffee directly from African women to ensure fair compensation for their labor. Nyamumbo, a third-generation Kenyan coffee farmer, made headlines after securing an investment on ABC’s “Shark Tank” from Emma Grede, known for brands like Good American and SKIMS.
The launch of Kahawa 1893 K-Cup pods comes after overwhelming customer demand for a convenient format of their best-selling coffees. Patrick Minogue, President of U.S. Coffee at Keurig, praised Nyamumbo’s passion for empowering women in the coffee industry and expressed excitement about introducing the brand to Keurig consumers.
The Kahawa 1893 K-Cup pods are available in two signature blends: Safari Blend, a medium roast with fruit undertones and tasting notes of milk chocolate and caramel, and Serengeti Blend, a full-bodied dark roast with tasting notes of dark chocolate and molasses. In addition to offering delicious African coffees, Kahawa 1893 supports its brand mission of empowering women through a tipping program that allows customers to tip farmers directly, enabling the women to invest in community projects.
Kahawa 1893 Coffee’s products are now available for purchase on their website, Kahawa1893.com, and in select retailers across the country. By choosing Kahawa 1893, consumers not only enjoy premium African coffees but also support women empowerment in coffee-producing communities.
