The franchise, originally planned to have five movies total, revolved around Newt Scamander, played by Eddie Redmayne, as he found himself caught in a war led by the evil Grindelwald. Law portrayed Dumbledore in the latter two films, but doubts have arisen regarding the future of the franchise reaching Rowling’s original five-film goal.
In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Redmayne also hinted that fans may have seen the last of Newt in the franchise. While Law and Redmayne are uncertain about the future of “Fantastic Beasts,” Law shared fond memories of his discussions with Rowling about taking on the role of Dumbledore.
Rowling gave Law detailed notes about the character’s journey and struggles, including Dumbledore’s complex identity as a gay man who loved Grindelwald. Law noted that Dumbledore always felt guilty and unlovable due to his past with Grindelwald, which ultimately led to his sister’s death.
