med bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, represents a significant step forward for Joby Aviation as it works to bring its revolutionary aircraft to market.
“We are thrilled to be working with the RTA to bring our all-electric, zero-emissions aircraft to Dubai,” said JoeBen Bevirt, founder and CEO of Joby Aviation. “Dubai is a global leader in innovation, and we are excited to play a role in shaping the future of urban air mobility in the city. This agreement represents a major milestone for Joby Aviation and brings us one step closer to our goal of revolutionizing the way people move around cities.”
The agreement with the RTA will see Joby Aviation and the Dubai authorities work together to develop and implement the infrastructure and regulations needed to support the launch of air taxi services in the Emirate. This will include the construction of vertiports – takeoff and landing zones for air taxis – as well as the development of an air traffic management system to safely integrate air taxis into Dubai’s existing aviation ecosystem.
Joby’s all-electric aircraft is designed to be ultra-quiet and environmentally friendly, addressing key challenges around noise pollution and carbon emissions associated with traditional aviation. The company’s aircraft is capable of traveling at speeds of up to 200 miles per hour and can cover distances of over 150 miles on a single charge.
Dubai has been at the forefront of embracing new technologies and transportation innovations, making it an ideal location for the launch of air taxi services. The Emirate’s commitment to sustainability and green initiatives aligns with Joby’s mission to provide clean, accessible, and affordable transportation solutions for urban areas.
“Dubai is committed to establishing itself as a global leader in sustainable and efficient urban transportation,” said Matt Field, Vice President of Business Development at Joby Aviation. “We are excited to collaborate with the RTA to bring our vision of clean, quiet, and convenient air travel to the city and its residents. This partnership represents a significant opportunity for Joby Aviation to demonstrate the potential of electric aviation and set the standard for future urban air mobility initiatives around the world.”
The agreement between Joby Aviation and the RTA is a testament to the growing demand for new transportation options that can address congestion and pollution in urban areas. As cities around the world grapple with increasing population density and traffic congestion, innovative solutions like air taxis have the potential to transform how people move around urban environments.
By leveraging cutting-edge technology, including electric propulsion and advanced air traffic management systems, Joby Aviation is poised to revolutionize the way people travel in cities. With the support of forward-thinking partners like the RTA, Joby is on track to bring its vision of sustainable, efficient, and accessible urban air mobility to reality.
