Jannik Sinner cleared despite testing positive for steroid twice

The US Open is set to return to Queens this month, with top-ranked tennis player Jannik Sinner among the favorites to watch. Sinner recently tested positive for a banned anabolic steroid, but will not be suspended due to it being deemed unintentional by an independent tribunal. Despite the controversy, Sinner is still expected to make a strong showing at the tournament, following his recent win at the Cincinnati Open.

Sinner, who recently turned 23, is considered one of the top stars of the new generation in men’s tennis, along with Carlos Alcaraz. He claimed his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open earlier this year and has since made impressive runs at the French Open and Wimbledon. Despite the positive drug tests, Sinner’s team provided an explanation that led to the tribunal finding no fault or negligence on his part.

The positive tests for the banned substance, Clostebol, were attributed to a product purchased by Sinner’s fitness trainer to treat a small wound on his finger. The product, which contained Clostebol, inadvertently led to Sinner testing positive for the substance. Following a hearing, Sinner was cleared of any intentional wrongdoing and will not face suspension.

Moving forward, Sinner remains committed to complying with the ITIA’s anti-doping program and ensuring that he and his team are meticulous in their compliance. Despite the setback, he is focused on putting this challenging period behind him and continuing to perform at a high level on the tennis court.

As the US Open approaches, all eyes will be on Sinner and the other top players vying for the prestigious title. Fans can expect an exciting tournament filled with intense matches and impressive performances from some of the best players in the world. Stay tuned for more updates and coverage as the US Open gets underway in Queens this month.
