Augusta University’s JagCon Cosplay Contest at the Maxwell Theatre in Augusta on Friday, Sept. 6, 2024, was a huge success with cosplayers showcasing their favorite characters from various franchises. From giant Gundam suits to Bumblebee from “Transformers,” the event was a celebration of creativity and fandom.
Joshua LaFavor, Augusta University’s Data Analyst and Esports Coach, hosted the event, which featured a variety of cosplayers, including Jasmine Walker as Bill Cipher from “Gravity Falls” and Aidan Orcutt as the Engineer from “Team Fortress 2.” The competition also saw unique cosplays like Brooke’s depiction of Seymour and Audrey II from “Little Shop of Horrors” and Cameron Mashak’s wendigo from Algonquian mythology.
The winners of the contest were Evans Granes, Gabriel Brunkow, Cameron King, and Cameron Mashak, who took home cash prizes of $250, $500, and $1,000 respectively. Their creative cosplays as Bonnie from “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” Helldivers from “Helldivers 2,” and a wendigo impressed the judges, including Thomas DePetrillo, Malia Pryear, and A.B. Osborne.
The event brought together fans of different franchises and genres, from anime and video games to mythology and movies. The cosplayers showcased their passion for their favorite characters through elaborate costumes and entertaining performances. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and camaraderie as attendees cheered for their favorite cosplayers.
