It’s rumored that Electronic Arts’ Dead Space horror series is on hold

The Dead Space franchise, known for its survival-horror gameplay, has had a rollercoaster of a ride since the release of Dead Space 3 in 2013. After a decade-long hiatus, Electronic Arts’ Motive Studio released a critically acclaimed remake of the original Dead Space game. However, recent reports indicate that a remake of Dead Space 2 has been explored but not greenlit, leading to speculation about the future of the franchise.

According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, Electronic Arts’ Motive Studio is no longer working on the Dead Space series. Despite initial rumors about a Dead Space 2 remake being in early development, Electronic Arts has denied these claims, stating that the project was never officially greenlit. The disappointing sales of the Dead Space remake may have contributed to the decision to halt further development on the franchise.

This is not the first time the Dead Space franchise has been put on hold. Following the underperformance of Dead Space 3, developer Visceral Games was moved to other projects, ultimately leading to the closure of the studio. It took almost a decade for the franchise to make a comeback, with Motive Studio’s remake of the original Dead Space receiving praise from both critics and players alike.

The future of the Dead Space series remains uncertain, with Electronic Arts focusing on other projects such as the Battlefield franchise. With recent layoffs and studio closures, fans are left wondering if they will ever see a new installment in the beloved horror series. While there is no official confirmation on the fate of Dead Space, the lack of development activity is a cause for concern among fans.

As we await further updates on the Dead Space franchise, it’s clear that Electronic Arts is facing challenges in maintaining a diverse portfolio of games. With the cancellation of the Dead Space 2 remake and the focus on established franchises, the future of new and innovative titles from the publisher remains uncertain. Only time will tell if we will see the return of Isaac Clarke and the Necromorphs in a new Dead Space adventure.
