The 25-year-old Henderson, making her Olympic debut, showcased her talent by earning a medal in her first race. Prior to her Olympic success, Henderson was the 2021 British National Time Trial Champion and the runner-up at the 2023 Euros.
Meanwhile, U.S. cycling star Chloe Dygert overcame an early crash to secure the bronze medal, finishing just behind Henderson with a time of 41:10.70. Dygert, the 2023 World champion, has faced numerous challenges on her journey to the Olympics, including a serious crash in 2020 that almost ended her career, heart surgery, Epstein-Barr virus, and foot and Achilles injuries.
This bronze medal marks Dygert’s third Olympic medal but her first in road cycling. She joins Rebecca Twigg as one of the only American cyclists to achieve success in both road and track cycling. Dygert previously won silver in Rio and bronze in Tokyo in the team pursuit event.
Despite the challenging weather conditions in Paris, with rain making the course slippery, Dygert was not the only cyclist to experience a fall. American competitor Taylor Knibb, who is also competing in triathlon, fell during the race and finished in 19th place with a time of 43:03.46.
