The Georgia Bankers Association (GBA) recently held their 131st Annual Meeting on June 20th, where members elected and installed new officers for the 2023-2024 fiscal year. The association also added eight new members to its board of directors. Kim Wilson, the president and CEO of OneSouth Bank in Macon, was installed as the 134th GBA Chairman. In a statement, Joe Brannen, GBA president and CEO, lauded Wilson as a veteran banker who is highly respected by her peers in Georgia and has been heavily involved in the association over the years. He expressed confidence that Kim’s leadership would be beneficial for the banking industry in the state.
The GBA members also elected Brad E. Barber, president and CEO of First National Bank in Bainbridge, as the new Chairman-Elect, and Philip G. Williams, president and CEO of The Claxton Bank, as the new Vice Chairman. Additionally, eight new board members were installed for their terms beginning on July 1.
Within the new board members, Jamie C. Tallent, president and CEO of River City Bank in Rome, was appointed to the North Group, Samuel W. Beall, president and CEO of Bank of Dudley in Dublin, was appointed to the Central Group, and Donald J. Torbert, Jr., president and CEO of Southeastern Bank in Darien, was appointed to the South Group. Other new members included Michael T. Lee, Richard A. Basinger, Gregory H. Eiford, Marjorie Huckabee Carter, and Thomas Kelly Smith in various roles and groups within the GBA.
The Georgia Bankers Association, established in 1892, aims to promote the general welfare and usefulness of banking and the preservation of a sound banking system. For 131 years, the GBA has been the resource that empowers Georgia’s banks, providing effective government relations and public advocacy, a community of professional peers, top-quality education, professional development, and revenue-enhancing products and services. With the new leadership team and board members in place, the association is well-positioned to continue serving the banking industry in Georgia.
