First Singapore-India Tech Conference by SG & IN Courts

The Supreme Court of Singapore and the Supreme Court of India recently held the inaugural Singapore-India Conference on Technology, bringing together judges and technology experts to discuss the impact of artificial intelligence on the justice system. Chief Justice Menon emphasized the importance of preserving the rule of law in the age of AI, highlighting the need for judges to evolve their roles while maintaining their ethical responsibilities.

While the possibility of “AI judges” replacing human judges remains distant, Chief Justice Menon stressed the importance of developing AI governance frameworks to regulate the use of AI in litigation and adjudication. The Conference featured discussions on topics such as “AI Assisting the Work of the Courts” and “Ethical Issues and Risk in the Use of AI”, with domain experts like Prof Urs Gasser and Prof Richard Susskind sharing their insights on the future of AI in the legal industry.

Moving forward, the judiciaries of Singapore and India plan to organize similar conferences periodically, alternating between the two countries. These events aim to facilitate dialogue and generate new proposals to address the challenges and opportunities presented by AI in the administration of justice.
