One of the most exciting art festivals in the world is taking place from January 26 to February 4 at Expo City Dubai. Dhai Dubai is the first ever Emirati-led light art festival, showcasing works from seven local artists.
The festival is a celebration of phenomenal Emirati talent, with a fantastic programme featuring awe-inspiring artistic projections, enlightening talks, interactive installations, and creative workshops. Expo City Dubai, in partnership with AGB Creative and Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, has organized this extraordinary event that is completely free to attend and will run from January 26 to February 4.
The artists that are participating in the festival include Mattar Bin Lahej, who designed the calligraphic façade on the Museum of the Future; Dr Najat Makki, who has been honored with the French Chevalier of Arts and Letters; Dr Mohamed Yousef from Emirates Fine Arts Society; designer Abdulla Almulla, who participated in last year’s London Design Biennale; Maitha Hamdan, a multi-disciplinary artist; Khalid Al Shafar, who has collaborated with Louvre Abu Dhabi; and Reem Al Ghaith, a celebrated visual artist.
One of the festival highlights, Sisters of the Desert, is a special projection show inspired by Emirati artist Dhabia Juma Lamlah, who created over 200 remarkable artworks despite not being able to use her right hand. The show also features special guests, Australian artist Rene Kulitja and South African artist Dr Esther Mahlangu, offering a narrative of resilience and cross-cultural connectivity.
Dhai Dubai is supporting the Liter of Light initiative to provide high-quality solar lighting to communities without access to electricity. Visitors to the festival can also pledge to support the initiative in communities across the Philippines, Kenya, Cameroon, and India.
