‘DWTS’ Faces Major Changes After Franchise Controversy

Recent scandal and inappropriate behavior allegations have rocked the international franchise of Dancing With the Stars, potentially leading to changes for the upcoming Season 33. The controversy stems from accusations against the U.K. version, Strictly Come Dancing, which resulted in the exit of two professional dancers. In response, the BBC has vowed to implement new protocols, and these changes may also impact DWTS.

The reported misconduct on Strictly Come Dancing led to the departure of professional dancers Giovanni Pernice and Graziano Di Prima. Amanda Abbington, known for her role in Sherlock, spoke out about her negative experience with Pernice, citing his behavior as unnecessary and abusive. Pernice has denied all allegations. Additionally, Di Prima admitted to kicking his dance partner, Zara McDermott, prompting his exit from the show.

As a result of these incidents, the BBC has announced new measures to enhance participant welfare, including increased supervision during rehearsals, the addition of welfare producers, and further training for staff. These changes aim to prevent future misconduct and ensure a safe and respectful environment for all involved.

While the changes are specific to Strictly Come Dancing, discussions are ongoing about potential adjustments to Dancing With the Stars. By prioritizing contributor welfare and implementing best practices, the global franchise aims to address concerns raised by the recent scandal and uphold high standards of professionalism and conduct. Stay tuned for updates on how these developments may impact the upcoming season of DWTS.
