In the latest installment of the “Deadpool” franchise, “Deadpool & Wolverine,” Director Shawn Levy promises maximum effort was put forth to create a fun-filled movie for fans. However, with an overreliance on time travel and alternate timelines, the film lacks real stakes and feels bloated.
Set six years after “Deadpool 2,” the movie follows a retired Wade Wilson forced into a new mission by the Time Variance Authority. While the film delivers on comedy, cameos, and meta jokes, the plot and fight scenes feel copy-and-paste, resulting in a lackluster viewing experience.
Despite strong performances from Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, the film falls short of the original “Deadpool,” but still offers a decent amount of entertainment. Superfans of the Marvel universe will appreciate the references, Easter eggs, and nods to 20th Century Fox.
“Deadpool & Wolverine” is a good way to wrap up the franchise, but it’s time to put the merc with a mouth to rest. The movie hits theaters on July 26, rated R for strong bloody violence and language. If you’re looking for a mix of comedy, action, and nostalgia, this film may be worth a watch.
