Cumulative 210mm module shipments surpass 260GW, top manufacturers produce n-type modules

The solar industry is experiencing a significant shift towards 210mm n-type modules, as highlighted in a recent report by TrendForce. With cumulative shipments exceeding 260GW in the first quarter of this year, it is evident that 210mm modules are becoming the preferred choice for manufacturers. In fact, seven out of the top ten module manufacturers are now producing 210mm n-type modules, showcasing the growing dominance of this technology in the market.

One key innovation driving this trend is the introduction of 210R rectangular wafers, commercialized by Trinasolar in 2022. This innovation has led to improved module efficiency and is expected to further accelerate market penetration in the coming months. Additionally, the expansion of large-format wafer production capacity is set to continue, with a planned capacity of 1,174GW by the end of this year, accounting for nearly 99% of the market share.

In terms of cell production capacity, TrendForce predicts that large-format cells will reach 1,549GW by the end of the year, with 210mm cells accounting for 82.66% of the total market share. Specifically, n-type cells are projected to reach a production capacity of about 1,078 GW, with TOPCon cells accounting for 58% of the n-type cell market. This shift towards n-type modules is expected to drive a significant increase in market share, from 26.22% last year to 68.93% this year.

The production capacity of large-format modules is also expected to reach 1,365GW this year, with 210mm modules accounting for 78.3% of the total. TrendForce projects that large-format modules will accelerate in shipments, representing over 85% of the market. Trinasolar stands out as a leader in this space, with cumulative shipments of 210mm modules exceeding 120GW in the first quarter of 2024, solidifying its global leading position.

Overall, the solar industry is witnessing a shift towards 210mm n-type modules, driven by innovations such as 210R rectangular wafers and large-format wafer production capacity expansion. With market leaders like Trinasolar paving the way for high-power output modules, it is clear that the future of solar technology lies in large-format, high-efficiency solutions.
