Continuous Open Source Innovation Powers Intelligent Era

In a recent keynote speech at KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe 2024, Dennis Gu, the Chief Architect of Huawei Cloud, emphasized the importance of integrating cloud native and AI technologies to drive industry transformation. This combination is crucial for meeting the demands of the intelligent era and overcoming the challenges posed by AI in cloud native environments.

Cloud native technologies have significantly impacted various industries by enabling faster sales, agile operations, and DevOps through microservices. The rapid growth of AI, particularly large-scale models, presents challenges such as low average GPU utilization, training cluster failures, complex configuration requirements, and unpredictable access delays. However, Huawei Cloud is at the forefront of AI innovation and offers solutions to address these challenges.

One example of Huawei Cloud’s innovation is the creation of a multi-robot scheduling and management platform using KubeEdge, a cloud native edge computing platform. This platform allows users to control multiple robots using natural language commands, enhancing management efficiency and reducing deployment time significantly. Additionally, Huawei Cloud has developed Volcano, an open-source project that improves support for AI and machine learning workloads on Kubernetes, resulting in a 20% improvement in training performance.

Another groundbreaking development from Huawei Cloud is Serverless AI, a concept aimed at simplifying complex AI tasks by recommending parallel policies and dynamically adjusting resource allocation based on workload changes. Serverless AI offers benefits such as improved GPU utilization, efficient hybrid workloads, and guaranteed quality of service for both training and inference tasks. This technology enables developers to integrate their existing AI tools and models seamlessly.

Technical experts from Huawei Cloud also highlighted the importance of platforms like Karmada and Volcano in managing cloud native AI workloads running on Kubernetes across data centers. Karmada provides automatic application management in multi-cloud and hybrid cloud environments, while Volcano Gang Scheduling improves training performance by minimizing transmission delays and resolving resource contention.

Dennis Gu believes that the future of AI productivity lies in the agility of cloud native technologies and the innovation of heterogeneous AI computing platforms. Huawei Cloud is committed to open source innovation and collaboration with industry partners to usher in a new era of intelligence. Join the community of developers and industry peers in embracing the intelligent era with Huawei Cloud’s cutting-edge solutions.
