Clarivate Plc, a global provider of transformative intelligence, has announced the appointment of Matti Shem Tov as the new CEO, effective August 9, 2024. Shem Tov, former CEO of ProQuest, will also join the Company’s Board of Directors. This leadership change comes as current Chief Executive Jonathan Gear steps down from his role. The Board of Directors and Gear mutually agreed that new leadership is needed to propel Clarivate into its next phase of growth.
Under Gear’s leadership, Clarivate restructured into three end-market segments, focusing on product innovation and customer commitment, resulting in a strengthened balance sheet and a solid foundation for future growth. The Board is confident in the company’s ability to drive organic growth with the expertise within each business segment.
Incoming CEO Matti Shem Tov brings over 30 years of global leadership experience in software, data, and analytics. With his deep expertise in driving innovation and growth, Shem Tov is well-positioned to lead Clarivate into a new phase of accelerated organic growth. Shem Tov expressed his excitement in joining Clarivate and working closely with the team to accelerate growth, increase product innovation, and drive value creation for stakeholders.

The appointment of Matti Shem Tov follows a thorough process led by the Board of Directors with the support of executive search firm Heidrick & Struggles. Clarivate also reported results for the second quarter of 2024 and will host a conference call to discuss the results and the leadership changes.
