The 52nd UIBC International Competition for Young Bakers recently took place in Reykjavik, Iceland, featuring 14 contestants from 7 nations. The Chinese team, supported by Angel Yeast, stood out by winning the “Best Showpiece Award.” Led by Leng Jianxin and coached by Liao Jinzhong, the team impressed the judges with their showpiece entry themed “Art of My Country,” showcasing Chinese folklore.
Established in 1971 by the International Union of Bakers and Confectioners (UIBC), the competition aims to inspire young bakers worldwide to enhance their skills and foster innovation. Since 2018, the event has been associated with the “Angel Yeast Cup” National Creative Bread-Making Competition for Youth Bakers in China, providing a platform for young Chinese bakers to display their talents globally.
The Chinese team, with the help of Angel, underwent a two-week training camp in preparation for the competition. Liao Jinzhong’s meticulous guidance and the support from Angel’s European Division played a crucial role in their success. The team’s showpiece, depicting the legendary Chinese character “Sun Wukong,” received high praise from the jury, earning them the prestigious award.
According to Zhang Shuai, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the China Association of Bakery & Confectionery Industry, the UIBC International Competition for Young Bakers is not only a test of skills but also a platform for cultural exchange within the baking industry. Angel Yeast, a leader in professional baking education in China, has been dedicated to nurturing young talent in the industry through various initiatives.
