Chinese Team Wins “Best Showpiece Award” at 52nd UIBC Competition Supported by Angel Yeast

The 52nd UIBC International Competition for Young Bakers recently took place in Reykjavik, Iceland, showcasing the talents of 14 contestants from 7 nations. Among them, the Chinese team stood out and secured the prestigious “Best Showpiece Award” with the support of Angel Yeast. Led by Leng Jianxin and assisted by Liao Jinzhong, the team wowed the judges with their showpiece entry themed “Art of My Country,” featuring a detailed depiction of the legendary Chinese folklore character “Sun Wukong” (the Monkey King).

The UIBC International Competition for Young Bakers, hosted by the International Union of Bakers and Confectioners, has become a platform for young bakers worldwide to demonstrate their skills and innovative spirit. Since 2018, the competition has been integrated with the “Angel Yeast Cup” National Creative Bread-Making Competition for Youth Bakers in China, providing an opportunity for Chinese bakers to shine on an international stage. The Chinese team underwent a two-week training camp supported by Angel, with a focus on perfecting their baking techniques under the guidance of Liao Jinzhong. The team also received assistance from Angel’s European Division, securing suitable training facilities in Iceland.

Zhang Shuai, Vice Chairman, and Secretary-General of the China Association of Bakery & Confectionery Industry, emphasized the cultural significance of the UIBC competition as a platform for global cultural exchange within the baking industry.
