The New Jersey Devils Ring of Honor gained a new member last season with the induction of Sergei Brylin, joining original member Dr. John McMullen. The momentum should continue with annual additions, and one candidate that stands out is Glenn ‘Chico’ Resch. Resch was the first-ever goaltender for the Devils following their relocation from Colorado and had a significant impact on the franchise. Despite not winning many games during his four seasons in New Jersey, Resch’s competitiveness and dedication endeared him to fans.
Although some may remember Resch from his playing days, many know him from his 18 years as the color analyst on Devils’ television broadcasts. After a three-year hiatus, he returned to the team’s radio broadcasts in 2017. Resch, along with broadcasting partner Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick, had the unique ability to make the fast-paced game of hockey easy to understand and enjoyable for fans. His goofiness and personality added to the broadcast experience and made him a beloved figure among fans.
Resch’s kindness and humility also set him apart, as evidenced by his compassion towards others during difficult times. His passion for the Devils remains evident, making him a deserving candidate for the Ring of Honor. While Ken Daneyko may be known as Mr. Devil, Resch could also share that title for his contributions to the team over the years.
