Chamber Joins IFA Roundtable on Franchises

In a recent roundtable discussion hosted by the International Franchise Association (IFA), Brad Williams, Detroit Regional Chamber’s Vice President of Government Relations, highlighted the significant impact of franchising on the local economy. Michigan is home to over 23,000 local franchise businesses, generating nearly $25 billion in economic output and providing over 250,000 jobs. In Detroit alone, there are 5,400 franchise locations, creating 58,000 jobs and contributing $5.7 billion to the local economy.

Franchising offers a proven path to entrepreneurship, giving aspiring business owners a strong foundation, established brand recognition, and operational support, increasing the chances of success for small businesses. Representatives from popular franchises like Goldfish Swim School, Great Clips, ACE Handyman Services, Tropical Smoothie, and Wendy’s joined Williams in emphasizing the economic opportunities and job growth created by the franchise model in communities.

U.S. Reps. Haley Stevens and Tim Walberg also participated in the discussion, recognizing franchising as a key driver of economic growth and job creation. Walberg noted that franchising provides opportunities for individuals to achieve the American Dream.

Michigan boasts a thriving franchise ecosystem, hosting well-known brands such as Little Caesars, Goldfish Swim School, and Biggby Coffee. The state’s favorable business climate and abundant talent pool have contributed to its success as a franchise hub. Franchising not only supports job creation and economic growth but also fosters a skilled workforce and provides pathways to ownership for aspiring entrepreneurs. The discussion underscored the importance of franchising in building strong, resilient local economies and highlighted the benefits of the franchise model in facilitating business success.

Michigan’s rich history of franchise success, combined with its supportive business environment, continues to attract franchise investment and contribute to the state’s economic prosperity.
