Bed Bath & Beyond, Inc. announced it plans to launch a national franchise system.

In its present incarnation, Bed, Bath & Beyond is an e-commerce retailer that also owns the Kirkland’s Home, Overstock and buybuy Baby brands.

“Our goal is to grow Bed Bath and Beyond in the most capital efficient manner,” said Marcus Lemonis, executive chairman of Bed Bath & Beyond. “This system enables local owners to deliver personal service and local flavor while leveraging our national infrastructure, marketing, and technology.”

The original Bed Bath & Beyond went bankrupt in 2023 and closed its remaining big box stores. Overstock.com acquired the brand and its intellectual properties the same year and rebranded as Bed, Bath & Beyond.

The retail brand has traditionally specialized in housewares, furniture, and specialty home items. At its height around 2019, Bed Bath & Beyond operated well over 1,500 stores in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico.

lows the company to operate a smaller footprint of corporate stores nationwide while a complementary franchise network extends its reach, touching nearly every major community in America.

Franchise locations will feature turnkey formats of a traditional Bed Bath & Beyond, including “Home, Kitchen Living, Storage & Organization, and Holiday Shoppe” sub-brands with a neighborhood feel, the company said.

Additionally, about 80% of each store’s assortment will be curated by Bed Bath & Beyond, with 20% localized by franchisees to highlight regional products and designers.

“Our team, led by Ron Taylor, Vice President of Franchise Development, is collaborating with Amy Sullivan from the Retail Omnichannel Organization, Tom Spadea, Co-Founder of Spadea Lignana Franchise Attorneys, and Brian Luciani, Chief Growth Officer at SMB Franchise Advisors,” Lemonis added. “Together, they will provide franchisees with expert guidance, operational support, and oversight to ensure brand standards and execution remain consistent nationwide.”

Other features of the new franchise model include providing franchisees with access to tokenization through a tZERO platform to provide capital efficiency, easy equity raises, and democratized ownership. The company noted that franchisees will also have access to Bed Bath & Beyond’s suite of AI-powered tools and data analytics capabilities.

Bed Bath & Beyond expects to finalize franchise documentation within six months. Interested entrepreneurs can contact franchise@beyond.com for details.
