Amina Hammond of HBCU Leggings Makes waves nationally

Amina Hammond, a 2006 Howard University graduate, has been making a name for herself with her innovative brand, HBCU Leggings. Inspired by Vice-President Kamala Harris’ historic election in 2020, Amina applied for and received licensing approval from Howard University in 2021. This led to a successful launch, with over $75K in sales in just two weeks, and a generous donation of $17K back to the university.

Since then, Amina has expanded her licensing to include ten other prestigious HBCUs and has secured distribution deals with two major retailers. HBCU Leggings can now be found in 13 campus bookstores across the country, as well as at the Eastern regional conference of Delta Sigma Theta.

In addition to her business successes, Amina has also launched an internship program for HBCU students starting in June 2024. She has also secured sponsorships with the Tom Joyner Fantastic Voyage and Maria More from the Rickey Smiley Morning Show, as well as upcoming sponsorships with Love Healthy at the BET Experience.

Amina’s dedication to showcasing the rich legacy and pride of HBCUs through her brand has not gone unnoticed in the industry. HBCU Leggings continues to gain traction and recognition for its unique designs and commitment to supporting historically black colleges and universities.
